FASCIQ® Floss Bands are latex straps that are 1 mm or 1.5 mm thick and 208 cm long. FASCIQ® Floss Bands are available in both 2.5 cm as 5 cm widths and are mainly used by the professional therapist for the treatment of fasciae. This treatment method is called Flossing and has led to amazing results. The type of Floss Band to be used depends on the area to be treated and on the amount of compression that is required.

What is Flossing?
Flossing has its origins in professional sports. More and more therapists are now using this method to treat various complaints.
There are different ways to treat parts of the body using these latex Flossing Bands, all with immediate results. The narrower bands of 2.5 cm are used for smaller parts of the body, like fingers. Wrap the band around the area to be treated while increasing the pressure (less pressure at the beginning and end). With each wrapping, cover approximately 50% of the previous wrap. Leave the band on for approximately two minutes while your client does his/her exercises. Then remove the band and have your client move (actively or passively) to “boost” perfusion. Repeat this process a few times.
The treatment is brief and the results are immediately measurable. However, it is often unpleasant and painful, especially in the beginning.
The function of the fascial system during Flossing
One possible explanation for the positive results of Flossing can be found in the function of the fascial system. The bands reduce myofascial adhesions and have an effect on the neural bioregulation system which is controlled by connective tissue and transfers information to and from the brain.
The soft connective tissue of the fascial network consists of different layers containing neural receptors. If there are fascial adhesions present in the tissue, this may cause pain, lymphatic failures and restricted movement.
The Flossing technique
By applying a FASCIQ® Floss Band to the area to be treated while increasing pressure, a fascial blockage is created. The tissue is bound tight and all fluid flows in this area are interrupted. In addition, enormous pressure on the outside influences all structures in the area to be treated. In this way, the structure is moved as actively as possible, ideally by the client him/herself, and the adhesions and non-physiological cross-links are released all the way into the deepest layers of the skin. Already during the exercise, the elasticity of not only the tissue changes, but also that of the muscular system and the fasciae. The tight Floss Band causes the various fascial layers to start moving in relation to each other. This has a positive effect on the adhesions (fibrosing) in the network. Then the Floss Band is released, which causes the area to suddenly fill up with fresh blood and lymphatic fluid, containing the necessary nutrients that facilitate tissue repair.
Joint pain and restricted movement are often caused by poor perfusion. Releasing the Floss Band causes an enormous increase in moisture supply (blood and lymphatic fluid). The improved perfusion is immediately reflected in the range of motion.
In case of more serious injuries, such as tears in the muscle fibre, injuries to ligaments or damage to the meniscus, Flossing – if applied by a professional therapist – can have a positive effect on the regeneration process. The band is generally applied for one to three minutes. However, if the skin turns white, severe pain sets in, or the extremity becomes numb, the treatment must be stopped immediately.
Flossing as a treatment for swelling: one of the most successful applications
The FASCIQ® Floss Bands are especially suitable for joints or tissue that is retaining moisture, such as a swelling due to an injury (trauma). The compression caused by the Floss Band forces the moister to move to a different area where it is absorbed faster by the lymphatic system. When Floss Bands are used in this way, it is important to apply the compression in the direction of the heart (apply Floss Bands from bottom to top while increasing pressure). Please note: this technique is not recommended for swellings that are the result of surgery.
